STOCK GRAZIERS WARNING – We have had one sheep flock and one beef herd experience losses while having access to Common Loosestrife. The sheep flock had 30 dead out of 800, while running on barley stubble with large, previously waterlogged areas, which have grown significant amounts of the weed.

Common Loosestrife has been associated with large losses of cattle and sheep, and given it likes high moisture and water logging, it has grown significantly following the wet winter and spring. Generally, stock will only graze the weed when there isn’t much on offer, however there has also been cases where feed is plentiful. The weed causes disease by liver and kidney toxicity.
