  • Dr. Andrew Johnstone BVSc
    Veterinarian/SRV Partner

Andrew graduated with a well-deserved veterinary degree from the University of Melbourne in 1979 after many happy yet productive undergraduate years. After working in a large, mixed animal practice in Geelong, he was drawn north of the border, migrating to Deniliquin and becoming one of the founding partners in Southern Riverina Vets. He has been active in driving the development and growth of the practice from its humble beginnings as a 2 Vet concern to the present structure of 5 Clinics servicing a wide area of the Southern Riverina and Northern Victoria.

Andrew is an accredited pregnancy tester and also an examiner for the NCPD (National Pregnancy Diagnosis Scheme). He utilises both an ultra-sound and his left arm in pregnancy testing many beef cattle throughout the district. He is also APAV accredited and is involved in the bio-security aspects of managing herd health issues such as Johnes Disease. His other interest lies in sheep health and he is an Accredited Veterinarian in the management of Ovine Johnes disease, Ovine Brucellosis and foot rot. Andrew busies himself in the Clinic as well with the maintenance of contented clients and the provision of a high quality service to an increasingly diversified area.

  • Dr. Nigel McMahon BVSc (Hons)
    Associate Veterinarian

Dr Nigel McMahon graduated from the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Veterinary Science, in 2003. He worked in Dairy/ Mixed practice at the Cobram Veterinary Clinic for 4 years and then a number of locum positions for the next two. This included intensive small animal practice in Adelaide, and extensive beef practice in Charleville and Charters Towers, Queensland. He then moved to Holbrook, New South Wales to work in Mixed/Beef practice before taking a year off to travel around Australia with his wife Alice.

Nigel returned to his hometown Deniliquin at the end of 2011 to begin work at the Deniliquin Veterinary Clinic and run beef cattle on his family’s property West of Deniliquin. He is an accredited NCPD (National Cattle Pregnancy Diagnosis) pregnancy tester and has completed a post graduate course in Ruminant Nutrition.

Nigel works closely with local producers to improve the profitability of their beef enterprise through formulation of specific herd health programs, early ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis and bull breeding soundness examinations.

In the clinic Nigel is passionate about the surgical repair of wounds and orthopaedic injuries, and finds it especially rewarding when he has an injured patient return to work.

At home Nigel and Alice are kept busy by their daughters Violet, Claudia and son Lawson along with their pet dogs, horses, alpaca, chooks, calves and sheep. When he gets the chance Nigel enjoys travelling with his family or casting lures for Murray Cod.

  • Dr. Lauren Kelly BVSc (Hons)
    Associate Veterinarian

Dr Lauren Kelly graduated from Melbourne University in 2001. In February 2002, she began work at Deniliquin Vet Clinic and has been here ever since!

Since moving to Deniliquin Lauren married Vincent in 2005 and has had 3 children; Mitchell in 2009, Grace in 2012 and Piper in 2016.

After 3 periods of Maternity leave and now working part-time, Lauren’s passion for mixed practice has morphed into a focus on small animals – for the time being. Her particular interests are soft-tissue surgery, especially facial and ocular surgery, small animal medicine and behaviour.

She does miss her cows, though, so expect to see her back on some farms once the children are at school!
